Google+ is already creating quite a lot more “buzz” than Google’s previous attempt at social media (Google Buzz). Google+ has a Statistics counter, which shows us the most popular users on Google+.
Not surprisingly, especially given all of the media attention surrounding him, Facebook CEO and creator, Mark Zuckerberg is the most popular user so far on Google+ with 44,871 followers. Coming in a close second is Larry Page, Google CEO, who has 30,271 followers.
The other popular users consist of bloggers, popular internet gurus like TechCrunch’s MG Siegler, and TWIT founder Leo Laporte. It’s difficult to say who will continue to stay on the top and who will be replaced as Google+ is opened up to more users, though many people speculate Zuckerberg will always be one of the most popular. Zuckerberg has gotten a lot of media attention for being on Google+, which could potentially be a real rival for Facebook.
According to some recent online polls conducted by The Christian Post, many people are potentially sick of Facebook and ready for a change. A significant group of people feel loyal to Google and are ready to move over to Google+. They already use Google for e-mail, documents, searching and browsing the internet, and keeping a calendar, and they are ready to let Google provide their social networking as well.
It’s hard to say how this will affect the list of most popular users. Will Google+ become a hangout for celebrities like Twitter? Or will bloggers and internet CEOs stay on the top? It’s difficult to say. I also wonder if Zuckerberg will continue to be the most popular user on Google+ if Facebook starts to become unpopular due to Google+. I suppose only time will tell. It is interesting to watch the two social media websites, though, and see how everything unfolds.
