Google plus tips and tricks

Google has a new answer to the social media marketplace: Google plus. Google plus is a new social media site on which, like Facebook, you can connect with your friends, family members, and colleagues, and share content such as pictures, interesting websites, status updates, etc.

Google plus is trying to improve upon Facebook in its answer to having select groups of friends with which you can share specific content. It does this by using a feature called Google Circles. You can add specific people to each circle and create different “groups” (i.e. “co-workers,” “college friends,” “church friends,” “family members,” etc.) which makes it easier to share different content with different people.

If you are thinking of using Google plus, there are many Google plus tips and tricks you will want to be aware of before you get started:

-          Sparks – This is one of the Google plus tips that can possibly help you find information that will be of great interest to you. Google plus has a section called “Sparks” that will allow you to enter in various things that you are interested in and then browse various content posted by other users on Google plus that relates to your interests.

-          Basic Formatting – Unlike Facebook, on Google plus, you will be able to use bold, italics, and strikethrough on your text along with some other basic formatting features. This is one of the Google plus tricks that will come in quite handy when you are trying to convey emphasis on certain words in your status updates.

-          Change Your E-mail Notifications – When you first start using Google plus, you will receive e-mail notifications for everything that happens on your Google plus page. You will want to go to your Google Account Options to choose which notifications you receive in your e-mail account so that your e-mail won’t be filled up with notifications from Google plus.

-          Understand Resharing Options – When you share content with your various Google circles, your contacts can easily pass along your content for all of their contacts to see. What you will want to do is make sure you click Disable Resharing when you post something that you don’t want passed along.
