Group video chat in facebook? Ah, its tinychat vs hangouts now

Facebook will soon be expanding its chat product with a video calling function, which will be powered by Skype. However, there won’t be any group video calling or support on mobile phones. At least, not yet. Next week, though, Tinychat is going to submit a group video chat application that will work on both iOS devices and desktop browsers and support video chat sessions of up to 12 people at one time.

The fact that it will support video calls from the desktop in addition to iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad devices makes it different from other applications from Tango and fring as well as the popular new Google Hangouts, which is a part of Google Plus.

Many people seem to be a fan of this video calling, and all you need to do to use this app is have a Facebook account. With over 750 million users on Facebook, this app is sure to be a hit. It’s also likely to give the new Google Plus Hangouts some competition in spite of how popular that is becoming.

Tinychat co-founder Dan Black says that the Tinychat web service is handling over 25 million visits a month with close to 100,000 new users signing up on a daily basis. Already, Blake says, Tinychat processes more than a billion minutes of video calls per month, and revenue is starting to flow in.

The company recently raised $1.5 million in funding from Sean “Diddy” Combs, A-Grade, and angel investor, Naval Ravikant. It’s certainly shaping up to be a very popular application especially as there are already so many Facebook users, and people love their video chat. Beware of video calling scam in facebook

Now that Facebook has teamed up with Skype to give you a new video calling feature, scammers have come up with a new way to trick you and spam all of your Facebook friends by using the lure of the new video calling feature. Make sure you’re aware so that you will not fall for this scam.

The official way to sign up for Facebook Video Calling is to download a program from the official Facebook Video Calling page. A chat window will ask you to configure a few Flash settings.

The feature is already working for some users, but others have been notified that “video calling will be available soon, please check back later.”

The scam, however, comes to you in the form of a wall post that entices you to “Enable video calls.” That’s the link you don’t want to click. If you do click on it, it will ask for access to your basic information. It will want to post on your wall and access to your newsfeed.

Make sure you don’t click those fake links. If you want to use the actual new Facebook Video Calling, you need to make sure you go through the official Facebook video calling program.
