Much of this success is due to the introduction of a revamped music player earlier this year. According to comScore, a digital tracking firm, Myspace had 28.8 million US visitors in October which is 1.4% more than the same time last year.

At the same time, Facebook which overthrew Myspace of its helm in 2009, witnessed its first ever double digit loss in US audience as the total US visitors count dropped to 149 million. This figure is 10.2 percent fewer than the US audience same time last year.

Two months ago, Myspace’s partial owner Justin Timberlake announced the release of the New Myspace. Even though the New Myspace is available only to few beta users, it has received a good reception from them. It was in March 2009, the number of visitors to MySpace started falling and by the time the Irish Based Specific media bought Myspace, monthly audience was steadily shrinking.

Back in November 2011, MySpace suffered its heaviest blow, losing 54.1% if its audience when compared to the same time one year prior. This prompted the company to release the revamped music player integrated with Facebeook. It was this move that helped to stop the hemorrhaging.

comScore figure showed an opposite trend for Facebook, which has now experienced a drop in the number of US audience for the fifth month running with the drop cross the 10% mark this month. Facebook has nothing to worry about as its audience are likely changing and not disappearing. comScore figures are based on the number of visitors from desktop computers. Facebook revealed that there is an increase of 61% in the number of mobile users world wide.

Recently in the F8 conference in San Francisco there was Andy Samberg (comedian) mimicking Mark Zyckerberg and entertaining all people present. The fun and frolic was definitely there but what’s really important is that he did not forget to mention that Facebook now has more than 800 million users.

This simply means that Facebook has been able to add more than 50 million users since the last two months. Earlier during this month the website revamped its newsfeed and all information about Facebook is now available there.

It would be pertinent to mention here that as Facebook gears for more growth, Google plus is also not sitting idle. Google plus has added a host of new features to its website and seems to have a lot more up its sleeve for its users. The steady pace at which Google plus is growing would definitely allow it to move to higher ranks and catch up with Facebook in just a matter of months.

Long hailed as the queen of social media, Lady Gaga was the first living artist to reach 10,000,000 Facebook fans, more than even President Obama, who has about 700,000 less fans than Lady Gaga. However, the equally lively account of Rihanna, which is updated by ghost writers, has lately grown faster than Gaga’s. As of now, Rihanna has 40,564,950 Facebook fans, which is over 20,000 more than Lady Gaga’s Facebook fans.

Lady Gaga does still have the comfort of being the most popular user on Twitter according to Twitaholic. She has more than 11.6 million followers. Justin Bieber is the second most popular Twitter user with 11 million followers. On Twitter, Rihanna is the 13th most popular user with 6.1 million followers.

Other popular users on Twitter include Oprah and President Obama.

It will be interesting to see how this Lady Gaga/Rihanna “race” plays out on Facebook, though. Who do you like better?

<g:plusone></g:plusone>
There are already many people who are loving the new Google plus. There are also still many people who haven’t managed to get an invite into the social network yet. Some people have been speculating that Google has created Google plus hype by having an artificial shortage of Google plus invites and that Google plus could easily let everyone in if they wanted to. However, Google plus did briefly go haywire over the weekend, which has caused this theory to be not as likely.

On Saturday, Google plus starting spamming Google plus e-mail inboxes with tons of e-mail notifications. According to Vic Gundotra, Senior Vice President of Social at Google,

For about 80 minutes we ran out of disk space on the service that keeps track of notifications. Hence our system continued to try sending notifications. Over and over again. Yikes. We didn’t expect to hit these high thresholds so quickly, but we should have. Thank you for helping us during this field trial, and once again, we are very sorry for the spam.

For many internet users, this admission is huge. Google running out of disk space is something you never expect to hear. People are wondering how many Google plus users it would take for Google to run out of disk space. For now, though, we do not know how many users Google plus has signed up.

It has been suggested that Google plus has already reached one million users by Jason Hiner, editor-in-chief of TechRepublic, based on data collected by Mohamed Mansour who created a tool to import Facebook friends information to Google. Google Chairman Eric Schmidt tells us that Google plus has millions of users, but we do not know how many millions.

Founder of Ancestry.com, Paul Allen, suggests that Google plus may already be closing in on 5 million users. Allen has figured that Google plus is growing at a rate of 280% within its first full week.

A more interesting question, though, is how big Google plus will get. Many internet users are wondering whether or not Google plus will eventually be popular enough to overtake Facebook the way Facebook once made Myspace obsolete. It will definitely be interesting to watch and see how everything develops and how many users sign up for Google plus in the upcoming months. Many users are finding it to be a great place to connect with all of their friends.
